An ominous wedge tornado was caught on tape in the town of Arab, where emergency officials say at least six people died.
In Cullman two funnel clouds tore through the town's center.
The courthouse and a church were damaged.
The line of storms toppled large trees and crushed vehicles and homes in Birmingham.
Tens of thousands are without power.
The storms left a trail of devastation from Arkansas, across Mississippi and into Georgia
where a possible tornado hit an apartment complex in Trenton, killing at least two people and injuring many more.
