A group of city officials from Brownsville and Matamoros, Mexico signed a proclamation on Wednesday with the intentions of forming a bi-national economic development zone to further business initiatives as well as enhancing border security.
Several representatives from both cities attended the event being held at the Brownsville Museum and announced their intentions to form Bi-NED, a bi-national economic development zone. During the last several months community leaders from both cities formed a plan to dedicate energies and resources to Bi-NED. The project is designed to create and promote prosperity and security. Members of the new group, Bi-NED, believe it will transform the low wage border economy to a more integrated investment driven one.
