Multiple stores hit in string of smash-and-grab robberies.
An Illinois Apple Store is the latest targeted in a string of smash-and-grab robberies.
Five masked robbers stole about $30,000 worth of computer equipment in under a minute early Monday from the Naperville store.
It was the third robbery at the same store within the last nine months.
Naperville Police Sgt. Greg Bell admitted that the store's design, with giant glass doors and a glass facade, is a concern.
"We have made recommendations to them to make things more difficult, but that is a decision Apple Corporation will have to make," said Bell.
He said the company has not told him of any plans to used armed guards.
Earlier this week, an armed guard at Apple's Chula Vista store outside San Diego killed a robber during a shootout.
The crimes have Mac-addicts lamenting.
"It's getting ridiculous," said Kathy Neundorf. "Poor Apple."
"I just hope that it stops because it's so good to have them here in town," added David Bast.
