The University of Texas Pan American had the pleasure of hosting the Texas Supreme Court on campus recently. The justices chose the university to hear two civil cases which gave students and the community an opportunity to learn about the Judiciary, here's Sandra Quintanilla with this weeks report.
UTPA's Student Union Theater turned into a lively courtroom debate when the Texas Supreme Court paid a special visit to the Edinburg campus. The highest appellate court for civil litigation in the state came to UTPA to hear oral arguments in two cases, one centered around a worker's compensation claim, the other dealt with a pervious ruling on a tract of land that had been subdivided by its owners. The back and forth arguments between the justices and the attorneys involved in these legal matters provided a unique and great educational experience for many in attendance. In addition to members of the Hidalgo County Bar Association and the community, college and high school students made it a point to attend to get a first hand look at the legal system in action.
