A tiny airport in the Upper Valley is making some big changes. The Mid-Valley Airport in Weslaco will open a federal inspection facility in just a couple of weeks. A project ten years in the making.
The project will also expand the runway by 1,000 ft. Making more room for travelers detoured by the violence in Mexico.
Officials say this airport will make it easier for flyers. Inspection will be a lot quicker and they will fly into the heart of the valley.
The city of Weslaco is growing and now that the airport will make it easier for business men and women to fly in, city officials say it will benefit the entire region.
Over the past few years, retail space in Weslaco has expanded.
The city Mayor says he wants to continue to fly high.
