A thirty seven year old mother is in hot water for her alleged negligence. She was arrested Thursday by Brownsville police after losing her four year old child in a busy retail store.
Police say it wasn't that she initially lost sight of the child that has her in trouble, but the fact that Brenda Vega didn't bother to look for the child after realizing the kid was missing.
"A customer had found the child wandering out in the parking lot and brought him back into the Ross." said Cameron County Assistant District Attorney,
Authorities say once the child was returned to the store, an additional 40 minutes passed before Vega even attempted to look for the four year old.
The store manager contacted police who responded to the unattended child call. Eventually Vega was reunited with the child after claiming him at the front of the store, she was also greeted by a Brownsville police officer.
She was arrested for abandonment and endangering a child with intent to return. Friday morning the judge set her bond at 10-thousand dollars.
