HIV activists pass out free condoms to beach-goers.
Florida's Fort Myers Beach is known as a family friendly destination, but it's also a haven for spring breakers looking to have a good time.
On Wednesday college kids were given a free gift that could save their lives.
Jonathan Wilcox and Julian Ramirez are two HIV educators from Island Coast AIDS Network.
They were passing out condoms to students on spring break.
"One out of four college students in the U.S. has an active STD, and it's estimated that one out of every 500 college students in the U.S. has HIV," Wilcox said.
Those are some scary statistics that they say could be much different if more people used protection.
"Twenty percent of Americans who have HIV do not know they have HIV because they've never been tested," Wilcox explained.
So throughout spring break here on Fort Myers Beach, the pair will be handing out thousands of condoms.
Not everyone was willing to take them in public and the duo even got kicked off one hotel property.
"We're not here to stop people from having fun. We're here to make sure people are responsible," Wilcox said.
