With budget cuts looming the McAllen I.S.D. is planning to spend some cash to save some cash.
The school district kicked off it Voluntary Early Notification Incentive Program which gives employees, like teachers and nurses, the chance to resign or retire this year with a $3,000 dollar incentive. The school district says this is a way to prepare for the major budget cuts expected for next year. So far, more than 40 employees have signed up and officials say they expect to save millions. Employees have the next few days to make their decision and three more days to sign up after Spring Break.
