EDINBURG - Hidalgo County is continuing to build a lawsuit against the U.S. Census Bureau for miscounting their overall population.
The county said the Census didn't mail census forms to people living in colonias. Hidalgo County has between 800 and 1200 colonias, this is the largest number in the state of Texas.
Officials said the county loses a lot of funding when they don't count these individuals.
Judge Ramon Garcia said the County has recently hired two lawyers to help file the lawsuit.
"We have hired two lawyers that specialize in this type of litigation. Mr. Rolando Rios and Mr. Jose Garza, they will be out representatives, challenging the method and the protocol relied on by the department of census to count the people in our area," said Ramon Garcia, Hidalgo County Judge.
Judge Garcia said the city hopes to file the lawsuit within the next two weeks.
