EDINBURG - The Hidalgo County Commissioners Court is trying to figure out how to achieve more representation on both the state and federal levels.
With the census results out, the Commissioner's Court believes the Southern Texas area should get an additional Congressional seat and another Texas State House of Representatives seat.
To get these possible positions, redistricting will have to take place.
"So we are hopeful that we will be able to figure out how to be involved in the redistricting effort, keep in mind that these lines are not drawn by us, they are drawn by the legislature," said Ramon Garcia, Hidalgo County Judge.
The Texas Legislative session ends in May.
Judge Garcia believes Hidalgo County should have a good idea of the new district lines by the end of April.
