Brownsville Mayor Pat Ahumada is expected to enter a guilty or not guilty plea next week in court.
A grand jury indicted the Mayor on charges of abuse of office and theft because of a check for a city vendor that ended up in his personal account and Ahumada denies the charges and says he is ready to go to trial. In October, Ahumada deposited a $26,129 city check written to a New York based vendor in his own bank account and he has no explanation for how the check ended up in his account. His arraignment is set for next Wednesday and NewsCenter 23 will keep you updated on this story.
