Spring breakers are already trickling down to South Padre Island. The Department of Public Safety is encouraging them to stay on the US instead of going into Mexico."

This group of spring breakers are from Western Michigan University. They are just some of many college spring breakers enjoying their time on South Padre Island.
"We are on spring break with a bunch of our friends having fun at the beach."
Across the border violence continues in Mexico. It was on Feburary 15th when ICE says Brownsville native Ice agent Jaime Zapata was killed in an ambush in San Luis Potosi.
Not to long to along before that missionary Nancy Davis was also killed in Mexico.
Because of those killings and DPS reporting as many as 65 americans have been killed in 2010, DPS has issued a warning discouraging spring break travel to Mexico.
Lea Thomas and her friends are listening to that warning and are sticking in the United States.
"Do you plan on going to Mexico? To Mexico no, I haven't heard many good things about it so my mom told me to stay in South Padre."
This group says they have already had a blast on SPI and look forward to enjoy the rest of their spring break there.
