MCALLEN - Thursday marks the opening of the Kelly Miller Circus in McAllen. As a special treat, the winner of the Upper Valley Cutest Clown Contest gets to perform in the big arena.
The winner is A.J. Rojas Jr., 11, of McAllen.
Before the show Rojas practiced tricks with two of the Kelly Miller Circus Clowns.
A.J. submitted a photo dressed up as a clown and received the most votes by the folks in the Upper Valley.
As the winner, A.J. will get to joke around and dazzle the audience in the center ring with the animals and the ring master.
Pizza Hut Pizza Eating Contest:
As the clowns got ready for the big show, so did the elephants.
The Kelly Miller Circus elephants, Lisa, Becky and Tracy challenged the McAllen High Bulldogs and the Nikki Rowe Warriors to a Pizza Hut Eating Contest.
The contest lasted only five minutes, but the big-eared ladies triumphed over both football teams, eating a total of 38 boxes.
Nikki Rowe Warriors came in second eating 19 boxes and the McAllen High Bulldogs came in third eating 17 boxes.
The boys chowed-down on pepperoni pizza, but the elephants chose a different topping for their pie.
"Pineapple, they go for the more exotic pizzas, and cheese," said John Moss, the Ring Master.
If you want to see the tigers, elephants and trapeze artists, the Kelly Miller Circus will continue through Sunday. For times and ticket prices visit their website at http://www.bestcircus.com/
