The recent winter freeze along the coast may have meant dead fish and stunned turtles, but the Texas Parks and Wildlife experts say it could have been much worse.
They guess it killed more fish than any freeze in the last decade, roughly similar to a freeze in 1997, but there were not many sports fish killed this month. Biologists think the sea Trout and Drum had enough time to seek out deeper water which protected them. The largest amount of dead fish this month were Mullet, Perch and Hardhead catfish. Also this time 1,500 sea turtles were rescued by volunteers and returned to the gulf.
