MISSION- Apart soldier Ira Laningham, 22, who was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan was laid to rest. Laningham was buried at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery Tuesday afternoon in Mission.

PFC Laningham was killed earlier this month in Afghanistan when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device and small arms. Many showed up to pay their respects. Those who came say they send their condolences to Laningham's family.

"This young man this wonder young man made the biggest sacrifice of all giving up his life for all of us here," said Lina Cruz, who came for the ceremony. She also has a brother serving in the military. "It's the least we can do is be here and send him off with respect and dignity like all of our soldiers deserve."
