Zapata family files wrongful death lawsuit against federal government
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The family of slain ICE agent Jaime Zapata has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the federal government on Tuesday in federal court.
Jaime Zapata was killed in February of 2011 in San Louis Potosi, Mexico when he and his partner were ambushed on a highway by alleged members of the Zeta cartel.
The lawsuit alleges that Zapata and his partner, Victor Avila who was wounded, never should have been sent on the dangerous mission. It also claims that Zapata was killed and Avila injured with firearms originating from gun dealers in the United States.
