Years Of Love
Couple celebrates nearly eight decades of marriage on their Valentine's Day anniversary.
If there were wedding bells at Rochester, New York's City Hall, they would've been ringing all day Monday.
16 couples tied the knot.
Every half hour, a couple was married starting at 9:30 a.m.
The city clerk's office says Valentine's Day is traditionally a very popular day for weddings each year.
One couple was celebrating their 77th wedding anniversary.
With their friends and the staff at St. John's Home by their side, 101-year-old Robert and 102-year-old Virgilia Unger celebrated 77 years of marriage.
After dating for a few years, the couple got married on Valentine's Day in Ripley, New York in 1934.
Virgilia Unger remembers the proposal like it was yesterday.
"He said 'I'm going to Ripley are going with me?'. Now Ripley in Meadville at the time was a place you went to get married on the quiet or on the spur of the moment," she explains.
Over the years they've lived by some basic rules like never going to bed angry.
They've also had a simple life and Unger jokes that she would claw the eyes of any woman who looked at her husband.
"I love Bob and I probably always will. Whether he's here or I am not here, I'll still love him," she says.
The couple has one daughter, two granddaughters and two great grandchildren.
