HIDALGO COUNTY — The Texas Workforce Commission recently released a report on unemployment rates indicating more people are employed across the board on the local, state and national level. Locally, Hidalgo county is at 11.7%, Starr county at 14.7% and Willacy county at 13.9%. It's a good indicator, but could just be seasonal employment numbers. WorkForce Solutions representative Victor De Leon states, "About this time every single year unemployment rates tend to drop slightly and that is sometimes due to educators going back into the workforce or the retail sectors perhaps hiring a lot more folks in preparation for back to school sales, etc."
