Woman struck by stray bullet to her face after shots fired at Mudd Pitts

The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office is investigating a case of a woman having a gunshot wound to her face on Sunday.

On July 6th at around 5:30 p.m. Hidalgo County Sheriff deputies, patrolling the area of Whalen Road and Jackson Road, also known as the Mud Pitts, were waved down by two women in a vehicle.

One of the women had a gunshot wound to her face and told deputies that while at the Mudd Pitts she heard multiple shots being fired in the area and she was struck in the face by a stray bullet.

A number of other law enforcement agencies assisted Hidalgo County deputies in detaining and questioning individuals in the area, but no one was arrested or charged with the shooting.

The injured woman was taken to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
