Harlingen police arrested and charged a woman with assaulting a public servant after attempting to handcuff her for public intoxication.

On Saturday, December 14th at 2:30 a.m. a marked police unit made a traffic stop on a white 1995 Ford Ranger for failing to stop at the intersection of South C street and W. Pierce Avenue.

The officer made contact with the driver, identified as Israel DeJesus Jr., 31, and his passenger Mtisha Michelle Wylie, 31.

The officer reported that DeJesus displayed signs of intoxication and asked him to perform a sobriety test which DeJesus refused and he was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The officer then questioned Wylie and determined that she also was intoxicated and proceeded to handcuff her. Wylie resisted being arrested by pulling away, kicking the officer in the chest and right thigh and then elbowing the officer on this jaw.

Police were able to finally arrest Wylie who was charged with assaulting a public servant, resisting arrest and public intoxication with a bond set at $31,881.

DeJesus was charged with driving while intoxicated and having no driver's license and a bond of $500.
