MISSION, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Authorities are investigating a homicide after a woman's body was found early this morning at a residence north of Mission.
Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at a home located on 6 Mile Line just west of FM 492 after 1 a.m. where they encountered a woman dead from at least one gun shot wound.
"We received a call of a person that was injured with a gun shot wound," said JP Rodriguez, HSCO spokesperson. "Our deputies responded [just after one o'clock this morning] and discovered an adult female deceased with a gun shot wound."
At this time, authorities are not releasing the identity of the victim.
A child's bike could be seen on the front porch of the home, but there is no information on if any kids were at the residence during the shooting.
No one is currently in custody as investigators are working to determine potential suspects as well as a motive for the crime.
"What our investigators job to do is narrow down all those possibilities, obtain a motive and obtain potential suspects, and also making sure that we collect the appropriate evidence to be able to charge someone if a suspect is developed," Rodriguez explained.
Investigators are not releasing details on the exact type of gun that was used or if authorities have recovered the weapon.
"Our investigators were going to obtain a search warrant to try and collect physical evidence and also to process the crime scene, before we release we want to make sure we have absolutely covered all angles," said Rodriguez.
