Homeowner trying to crawl through basement window after locking herself out meets tragic end.

A Lebanon, Ohio man made a grim discovery at his home Tuesday night.

David Kline came home to find his wife lodged in a basement window and not breathing.

Lebanon police believe 44-year-old Esther Kline apparently locked herself out of her home and was trying to crawl through the basement window when she got stuck.

Her husband found her after returning about 6 p.m. from an out-of-town business trip.

"I just went down and found her, and she feels cold," David Kline told a 911 operator. "She's hanging part way in the window. I think she's dead. Please send some help."

Investigators said it appeared Esther Kline was trying to back in through the window when she got stuck.

They said her body was found two-thirds of the way inside the home.

A co-worker said she got a text message from Esther Kline about 8:30 a.m. that indicated she had locked her keys inside the house and would be late to work, but she never arrived.

The co-worker said Kline was a supervisor at her job and would not necessarily have called in to report that she was not coming to work.

David Kline told the 911 operator that he unsuccessfully tried to pull his wife out of the window, but he said it was too small.

The coroner says there were no signs of foul play.

The preliminary cause of death was ruled as compressive asphyxia, meaning she was unable to breathe.

Authorities said Esther Kline crawled feet-first through the window, which is 33 inches wide and 15 inches tall.
