HIDALGO COUNTY - Customs and Border Protection officers detained a woman who attempted to smuggle an 11 year-old child, for the second time, at the Hidalgo port of entry.

It happened on Tuesday as the 21 year-old female from Mexico attempted to cross the child using a fake U.S. birth certificate. After the CBP officer inspected the document, the officer determined it wasn't real, and discovered the child was a Mexican citizen. Customs seized the document and took the female into custody and the child was turned over to his parents and returned to Mexico. The same woman and child had been detained two months ago in a similar smuggling attempt.
