It was a tense afternoon at the Mid Valley Airport. The Weslaco SWAT team worked hand in hand with Airport officials to diffuse a fake hostage situation.

"We never know when something like this will happen, especially since we have an Airport here in Weslaco. We do want to be prepared for something like this. It's not something that happens all the time. Actually, it's never happened in Weslaco, but its good to always be prepared for something like this" says Danny Elizondo from the Weslaco Police Dept.

A private airplane was used in the scenario. SWAT team members approached the scene with caution, while taking orders from Officials inside.
In situations like this, team work is key.

Several criminal justice students acted as hostages and high jackers. SWAT team members practiced how to remove bodies and approach an unpredictable situation.  Most importantly, how to deal with an uncooperative high jacker.
The Airport is expanding, and in a few weeks a Federal Inspections building will open.
The increased traffic may mean Officials will need to be on alert.
