Officials Launch Multiple Investigations

The Weslaco ISD is searching for a new leader after putting its current Superintendent on administrative leave. The school board officially placed Superintendent Richard Rivera on administrative leave with pay Thursday night. School officials say they received information about Rivera that prompted an investigation..
School officials say they had no choice but to look into the matter and refused to comment on the specific accusations. Rivera has been Superintendent for Weslaco since 1996.

"There are multiple investigations going on right now," said School Board President David Fuentes. "There are issues we need to address. We need to get clear concise and cooperation from all the people involved here. We need all the information, gather it and make sure we did what was in the best interest of kids. "

School officials say they hope to continue the legacy Rivera has created. In the meantime, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Ruben Alejandro will serve as interim until the school board fills the position.
