Weslaco man sentenced to prison for carjacking of woman and her children
McAllen, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A Weslaco man is sentenced to prison for carjacking a woman and her four children in an attempt to steal a vehicle and cross it into Mexico.
Luis Armando Garza Jr., 31, was sentenced to over 11 years after he pleaded guilty for carjacking and the use of a firearm during a crime of violence.
Garza admitted to being offered $2,000 and a handgun, by a Mexican citizen, to steal a vehicle and take it into Mexico. The incident occurred in November 2012 when Garza approached a minivan parked at a Weslaco convenience store.
During the hearing testimony revealed that Garza pointed a gun to the female driver and her children, ranging from 12 to 15 years of age, to exit the vehicle.
The family exited the minivan and Garza left with the vehicle, it was not reported how he was apprehend by authorities.
