WESLACO - It's been almost a year since the city of Weslaco has had an official Police Chief.

Former chief Juan Sifuentes resigned last october and 11 months later, there is still debate over the next top cop. City manager Leo Olivares says they narrowed down the field of applicants from ten to two in June. But a divide in the city council has put the decision on hold.

Olivares says the city council will be re-discuss the vacant chief position in the beginning of October, and he hopes they can make a final decision by the end of the month.
