Weslaco Faithful Celebrate Feast of Saint Nino
WESLACO - The streets of Weslaco were filled with the color red on Sunday afternoon as the faithful celebrated the Feast of Saint Nino.
The color red is traditionally used for the feast which is celebrated with lots of food and festivities at Saint Pius the Tenth Church. We spoke with,Maria Garcia, one of the organizers about the significance of the parade who said, "Well the first one in the line, those are the matachenas, those are the escorts their escorting Saint Nino. They are the soldiers of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Guadalupe, so they are part of the celebration and they are going to escort Saint Nino to go inside."
The Feast of Saint Nino is one that originates in the Philippines and is celebrated every third week in January.
