Weslaco Police are searching for two masked men who kidnapped a couple from their home using automatic weapons. Investigators say the kidnapping ended in a canal early this morning.
A calm 58-year-old, Jennifer Harbury, says it all happened around midnight when two armed men wearing masks barged in her house on South Missouri Avenue in Weslaco.
“Some gunmen came into my living room and blindfolded me, tied up my hands, took me into a car at gunpoint. We drove around through several ATM's.”
Weslaco Police say Harbury and an 18-year-old male were put in a four-door, silver Chevrolet sedan and drove around the area, looking for ATMs to get cash from her credit cards. After several hours, the 58-year-old was dumped into a canal near Mercedes.
“I swam to the bottom and then swam to the other side, took a look out to see if they were there. I saw them driving off.”
After they were gone, she made a run for it. She tells us she ran through a cornfield and empty road for a while before finding someone.
The two suspects in their 20's remain on the loose tonight. Police are looking for a man about 6’0, thin, light complexion and with short black hair. The other man is described as 5’5, thin and with short light brown hair.
It’s unknown at this time if the kidnappers were able to get money from the credit cards.
