Waldoboro, ME — An x-ray reveals cruel injuries to a dog. A veterinarian says the black Lab was shot with a BB gun hundreds of times, Brooke Buford has the story.
It's a new home and a second chance at life for this 1 year-old black Lab named "Lady." We just got knocked on our feet when we heard.
Peter Blanton is her newest owner. He came to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter last week looking for a new pet to take home. There are so many animals that need homes. We fell in love with her.
"Lady" was found by animal control officers wandering near a road in Waldoboro. She was brought into the shelter and adopted, but before she could go home, Lady had to be spayed, that's when a veterinarian made the gruesome discovery, "I noted she had some scaring and some crusting and some lumps on the bridge of her nose."
At first he thought it could be a reaction to fly bites or even a dog fight, then, he took a closer look, with an x-ray, "I started feeling them a little more closely. And, they really felt like they were BB's."
Hundreds of BB's, "If that's the case... that means someone had shot this dog repeatedly over and over and over again. It may be hard to believe, but the vet says all of these BB's in the dog will actually stay there... that they could cause more damage if they try to remove them. As long as "Lady" stays healthy and the BB's don't cause irritation, she'll be good to go."
Now, the search for whoever did this to Lady begins, "I have to go around and talk to the neighbors and find out if they've ever seen the dog. If they've heard anything. Hopefully we can find out what happened to the dog."
The good news is Lady is now safe at home with her new family and a new beginning.
