Weight Loss Apps
Your smartphone could hold the key to keeping your New Year's resolution.
Trimming the fat is the number one New Year's resolution, and it seems women have the most to lose post-holiday.
"Females may gain up to three to five pounds through the holiday season, if you include Thanksgiving all the way through the New Year's celebration," says Dr. Kamilia Smith.
Want a free trainer or weight loss coach?
Dr. Smith, a Baylor Dallas OB-GYN says it's as easy as downloading an app to your smartphone.
"Lead My Goals" is one of the most comprehensive.
It can manage your whole life, but specifically your health and fitness.
You add goals and tasks and can keep track of your progress.
Dr. Smith suggests a calorie tracker.
Livestrong has a free app.
"You can see how many calories you have left for the day, the week, some allow you to store up for later in the week," Smith says.
"Lose It" is popular, too.
It's free and easy to navigate.
Dr. Smith's top pick is also free.
"There is one app, it's called '40-30-30' and that's how we should be living our life. 40 percent of our calories should be consumed at breakfast, 30 percent at lunch, 30 percent at dinner," she says.
It's also designed for you to consume 40 percent carbs, 30 percent protein, and 30 percent fat.
The key, Dr. Smith says, is not to diet, but to modify your lifestyle.
With free apps there are no longer any excuses.
There are hundreds of free workout applications as well.
