SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Big waves and strong winds are causing dangerous conditions out in the Gulf of Mexico.
"Really rough we can't work right now, we can’t work and that affects us, we can't catch any fish right now."said Fisherman Hector Blaron.
He works on the "Master Pete" owned by a company called G&O Trollies.
Blaron and the crew that work on a 50 foot shrimp boat were forced to come back into shore.
"Small boats, it is more safe to come back , because outside its too rough for a small boat like this one."said worker Andreas Belasquez.
Many of the boats do not heave heaters. During these frigid temperatures to try to keep warm they are turning on the stoves.
Workers at G&O say they hope the choppy waters stop soon and temperatures warm up so they can continue catching shrimp.
