Police officers, volunteers, community members and even Santa Claus are working hard today to get gifts organized for  the Brownsville Police Department's big toy giveaway tomorrow at the station.

"Well today's a big day for us because today we set up all of the toys and all of the giveaways for our yearly event," said Brownsville Police Chief Orlando Rodriguez. "So we have officers and volunteers that are helping us unload trailers full of toys."

Some individuals are looking so forward to the giveaway that they're already standing by for the event.

People are already camping outside the Brownsville Police Station in the hopes of getting first dibs on the toys they really want.

Anything from "Hello Kitty", backpacks, sports balls, board games, skateboards, bicycles and more, are expected to put a big smile on children up to the age of 12.

"Some of the reactions that I've seen here personally, for the many years that I've been here with the department, is a lot of joy," said Brownsville Police Department accountant Imelda Trejo. "They see a toy, they see-or they give 'em a bike, they're full of excitement. And sometimes I've even wept to see that joy on their face."

"if not for this event, many children in Brownsville, would not have Christmas because they're financially disadvantaged, so for a lot of children, hundreds, maybe even thousands of children, this is all they're gonna get for Christmas and we're happy to be part of that," said Rodriguez.

Tickets will be available until 5 p.m. today or until they are all gone at the Brownsville Police Station, located at 600 E. Jackson. This will also be the location for the "Christmas for Kids" toy giveaway event. It will start at 9 am tomorrow and continue until 2 p.m.
