Black Friday has more meaning to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.  The defending NBA Development League champs have their home opener the day after Thanksgiving at State Farm Arena.

The Vipers won their first two games of the season on the road, averaging a whopping 132 points per contest.

"We're scoring a lot of points right now, we're playing pretty well on offense right now, we're ahead of the game on offense right now, defense is catching up," Vipers head coach Nevada Smith said.

"Exciting team, high-paced, up and down type team, making a lot of shots and a team that's making sure the crowd is involved, we're going to try to feed off them as much as possible," Vipers guard Isaiah Canaan said.

Canaan is one of two players assigned to the Vipers from the parent team Houston Rockets.  The Rockets have some injury issues with their guards and it's possible Canaan gets the big league call just as the team is coming together.

"Can't really worry about what's going on up there when there's another team down here that you have to worry about," Canaan said about being called up.  "When I'm called, I can take off, but for right now, I'm taking it day by day and keep focused on the Vipers."

It's been hard enough getting the team on the same page.  There's only one returner from last year's championship team.

"It's hard, I think they're finally able to understand where guys want the ball, where guys get shots from," Smith said.  "The chemistry off the court is there, and on the court, it's starting to get there, play a couple of more games, a couple of more weeks together, I think we're going to be really good."
