Wednesday marked the 22nd anniversary of one of the worst school bus accidents in the state's history in Alton.

A memorial was created several years ago to honor the 21 students killed in the Alton bus crash and several people spent the day at the memorial to remember the lives lost that day. The accident occurred 22 years ago when a Dr. Pepper delivery truck ran into a school bus and sending the bus into a deep canal causing the drowning of twenty one students and injuring another forty. Several lawsuits followed after the accident and many say it changed the town forever.
