A total of 25 students at Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP (Advanced Placement) exams.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous, college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP exams. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performances on AP exams.

Two students qualified for the National AP Scholar award by earning an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of the exams. The National AP Scholars are from the Class of 2013: Michelle Guajardo and Gabriel Siegel.

Three members of the VMHS Class of 2013 earned the AP Scholar with Distinction Award. This is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more the exams. The students are: Michelle Guajardo, Juan Moreno, Gabriel Siegel.

Six students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by receiving an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of the exams. Current seniors, Benjamin Garcia and Matthew Sparks earned this designation. Members of the Class of 2013 who earned this honor are: Demetrius Davis, Fernando Martinez, Adrian Perez, Kivani Sanchez.

Sixteen students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completed three or more AP exams with grades of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars in the Class of 2013 are: Veronica Almendarez, Esperanza Arjona, Victor De Leon, Francisco Lozano, Lisa Lozano, Daniel Rojas, Aaron Tijerina, Janitzy Tornes, Cassandra Zarate. The AP Scholars from the Class of 2014 are: Francisco Almanza, Rebekah Amaya, Giselle Castillo, Janessa Farias, Jaquelyn Gonzalez, Joel O’Canas. Darius Davis from the Class of 2015 also earned an AP Scholar Award.
