HIDALGO COUNTY - Carbon monoxide is commonly referred to as the silent killer because it's colorless, odorless and tasteless, but it's not the only silent killer.

Radon gas also can't be seen, smelled or tasted and it's reportedly responsible for 20,000 lung cancer deaths every year. Luckily, it hasn't been a problem, in the Valley, but experts are warning people that radon gas can be hard to avoid because it's naturally occuring. Hidalgo County Emergency Manager Oscar Montoya says, "Anything that deals with the ground is going to have some level of radon and for instance if you get your water from the well, that well water has been around the radon for some time. So it's going to have radon particles in it same thing with natural gas."
