A warning from Brownsville PUB now with summer temperatures on the rise, some residents could see an increase of electricity scams.

AEP Texas announced that they are receiving a high number of unsolicited calls and emails that threaten to shut off electricity to those who don't pay money or share personal information.

Ryan Greenfeld with Brownsville PUB says that this is a common occurrence during the summer season, "These summer months, as it gets hotter and hotter, we all get very dependent on our air conditioner for sure, so I can see where it could be an incentive for people to maybe take these threats a little bit more seriously."

BPUB says that sometimes scammers target the elderly as well as young home owners. They advise that if they ever do need to contact you, it will be by mail or an automated message.
