MISSION - Nine Mission elementary schools are recognized for their outstanding academic performance. The Texas Education Agency is awarding these schools the Title 1, Distinguished Performance Award.

These schools all have a majority of low income students. Over several years, the schools have met adequate yearly progress and are rated exemplary.

"What is nice about this award, is that it really does focus on student performance over a three year period, so it's not just a one year flash in the pan kind of thing. You are looking at student performance over an extended period," said Craig Verley, Mission Independent School District PIO.

The schools that met this award are Cantu Elementary, Leal Elementary, Midkiff Elementary, Mims Elementary, Waitz Elementary, Pearson Elementary, O'Grady Elementary, Cavazos Elementary and Salinas Elementary.
