McALLEN — Meet Layla, Emilio and Chloe, three Valley pets from different owners. But they all are suffering from the same illness... they each have allergies.
All are patients at the Nolana Animal Hospital and under the care of Veterinarian Amanda Roge. She said these three are just part of the many animals she sees that suffer from allergies.
"I would say, maybe we would see maybe five or six a day in a lot of cases and it is definitely seasonal. Sometimes primarily all I see is allergies," said Roge, Nolana Animal Hospital Vet.
There are several different types of allergies. The most common in the Valley are inhalant allergies, food allergies and insect-pest allergies.
"An animal can develop an allergy anywhere. But the fact that we have fleas here year round, allergy dermatitis is common, we can see that year round. But also the tropical type of plant it seems that a lot of the dogs are allergic to those," said Roge.
