If you could walk a mile in the shoes of Roberto and Dominga Villegas, you would experience timeless love every step of the way.

Their journey begins in 1944: 18-year-old Bob asked 17-year-old Minga to marry him before he left to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Today, this Valley couple is celebrating 70 years of marriage.  Their bond has done more than endure the test of time--it continues to grow stronger each day.

"He was going to the Army and he told me that he'd like to marry me because he didn't wanna lose me," said Minga Villegas.

Bob and Minga spent their first few years of marriage apart while Bob was serving in the Phillipines.  After he returned, the young couple began writing the early chapters of their love story together.

"We were so young, and we didn't know what the hell we were doing!" Bob Villegas said, laughing.  "That's about the truth, you know."

"He was very kind, and he is very kind," Minga added.  "He's very nice.  And we were in love.  You know, when you see a person, you fall in love.  It's everything."

The couple has seven children together.  They travel back and forth between Mission and Indianapolis where most of their family still lives.

Many people dream of achieving 50 years of marriage--70 years is a milestone almost beyond belief.

Bob and Minga say the key to lasting this long is honoring their wedding vows of staying together through better or worse.

"We never had anything about getting divorced or anything like that because I was in the service, you know," said Bob.

"We married through the church, and you should be married for better or for worse.  So a lot of things happen but still you manage to take care," Minga explained.
