Valley Athletic Trainers Association to Raise Money for Spinal Cord Injuries
McALLEN - We all know that football is a high risk injury sport and the Valley Athletic Trainers Association is working to raise money for the Gridiron Heroes Spinal Cord Injury Foundation.
It's a foundation created to help athletes who suffer from life altering spinal cord injuries from being on the football field. Gridiron Member Natatli Coronado says, "A lot of the times we don't think about the cost that insurance doesn't pay for, for example a wheelchair, accessible van that runs anywhere from $40 to $60 thousand dollars. They also help build wheelchair ramps at their homes, they also help pressure mattresses, we don't think about that but they need specialized mattresses."
The Fill the Helmet drive will start the second week of November during the first round of playoffs.
