The song "Vida" is one of 20 semi-finalists chosen among entries from across the world hoping to win Sony's global music contest for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The artist is former Valley resident Elijah King, who is still soaking in the possibility of having his song chosen as the winner of the Super Song contest.

"It's a humongous privilege and honor to be able to be amongst the top 20 chosen from across the entire globe," King said.  "I mean it really doesn't get any better than that."

The winner of the contest will have their song recorded by Latin music sensation Ricky Martin and will be featured on the 2014 FIFA World Cup soundtrack.

King wrote the song weeks before he even knew about the Super Song contest, but the song was still written with Ricky Martin in mind.

"Ironically, I wrote it with the intention to submit to Ricky Martin, and the next thing you know I find out about a contest catering to something not only to Ricky but the World Cup and I mean I had to give it a shot," explained King.  "I had nothing to lose."

Now, King has everything to gain--the chance to work with one of his musical idols and have his song heard by people all over the world.

King graduated from Veterans Memorial High School in 2004, and his parents still live in Mission, so the Rio Grande Valley is home to King.  With the excitement building, King is grateful for the support he's received from the Valley.

"It's nice to have the support of home.  I don't just do this for the Valley, I do this for everybody."

Voting for the Super Song contest ends this Friday at 4 p.m.  If you'd like to vote for King's song "Vida," visit the following link:
