UTPA's Report Looks at the Migrant University Summer Experience Program
Students of migrant families face more challenges and often fall behind in high school as a result of migrating up north, but a program at UTPA, called the Migrant University Summer Experience, is helping 134 students catch up or even get ahead. Sandra Quintanilla has this week's UTPA report.
High school students Edgar Gonzalez of La Sara and Aidee Molina of Valley View traded long hours of hard labor harvesting crops with their families up north this summer for the opportunity to work, take classes and temporarily live on campus at the University of Texas Pan American. The teenagers convinced their parents to allow them to stay behind and participate in UTPA's Migrant University Summer Experience or MUSE Camp.
