UTPA Weekly Segment Looks at the STEM Enrichment Camp

UTPA in collaboration with the Region One education service center came up with inventive ways tp spark the interest and excitement of middle school students in the fields of science, technology and math. As Sandra Quintanilla reports, a series of camps at UTPA are introducing students to these important fields.

What do dropping the pen in the bottle while blindfolded, attempting to retreive an object while being restrained and participating in a three legged race have in common? They're fun, hands on, team building activities used to show young people how to communicate and work with each other as a group. The Texas Manufacturing Assitance Center, located on the UTPA campus, invited middle school students from Edinburg to participate in these challenging exercises as part of a four weekend STEM Enrichment Camp designed to get kids interested in pursuing STEM fields or science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
