The University of Texas Pan American has received a $3 million dollar grant to increase the percentage of female Hispanic faculty members on campus. Female faculty members in the STEM, (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics),  field would be able to receive support from the grant. Currently, only 18% of faculty are women in the STEM field at the university and that is 10% less than the national average. Associate Professor Dr. Cristina Villalobos commented on the awarding of the grant, "With this grant we hope to retain the women that we have currently in STEM fields and again women across the campus. It will help retain them and also to help move them to the next level of ranks from assistant to associate level and then to the full professor level."
