BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Tuesday was National Voter Registration Day and college students at the University of Texas at Brownsville were being encouraged to sign up to vote, Na'tassia Finley reports from the campus.
He's 18 and now of age, UTB freshman Edward Trevino can now cast his vote, "I fell like it's important to have our voice heard, if we don't do it, who else will."
He's one of about a hundred students that were registered to vote on Tuesday, the event, part of a much large one, National Voter Registration Day.
The Center for Civic Engagement's, Project 100%," is working to get every last student and staff on campus registered, but their mission goes beyond just that, they also educate and they hope newly informed voters spread their message.
Several departments on campus and the Center for Civic Engagement work year round to inform and stress the importance of actually heading to the polls once they're registered.
Students can go by the Center for Civic Engagement any time of the year, they have over 50 people deputized to register voters.
