UTB Host Hallo-Green Science Day for Elementary Students
BROWNSVILLE - Elementary students had the chance to experience a combination of both science and Halloween on Wednesday at the University of Texas at Brownsville Hallo-Green Science Day.
The event was held on the campus of UTB as part of the 2011 Ahead of the Future Conference and students had the chance to do some science experiments, face painting and making yucky slime. The event incorporated a Halloween theme for most of the activities and are meant to spark the children's interest in science at an early age. Event Director Dr. Janice Butler stated, "If we don't get the kids engaged we lose them. I remember when I was in school and I don't remember anything about science. But now I look at all this stuff as an adult and I say, wow, that is really cool but I never got a chance to experience that. I want these kids to have the opportunity and you can hear that they are really excited about science."
