A record number of students enrolled for the fall semester at the University of Texas at Brownsville.

The university is reporting they had 8,420 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students enrolled and more than 5,700 students receiving financial aid.

UTB President Dr. Juliet V. Garcia stated, "Students don't arrive on this campus by chance. They are recruited, receive scholarships, some are attracted to our athletic teams, our chess teams, enticed and advised."

The fall semester marks the first time UTB has required it's students to meet minimum standardized test scores though students who were in the top 25 percent, of their graduating classes, did not have minimum score requirements.
