University of Texas at Brownsville students may soon be attending classes on a new campus. University leaders plan to move from the current Fort Brown area because they have been unable to buy land and buildings form Texas South most College.
"I think we are moving on they have told us that they have no desire to sell us even one inch of dirt or one classroom in any building,” says Barry Burgdorf, vice chancellor and general counsel for the UT System. “Perhaps the buildings that we have will become a graduate focus or a health focus. Those buildings will be put to use and we will not abandon those buildings but we are going to need a core campus somewhere other than Fort Brown to meet our needs."
Burgdorf says the UT System will move quickly to evaluate alternative sites to serve students by the Fall of 2015.
